Rakim Singleton, owner of OMG Restaurant & Catering, never imagined he’d have his own restaurant. From cooking for fellow inmates during a 10-year sentence to creating weekly-changing meat and seafood dishes, cooking has been a lifelong passion. The restaurant reflects his journey and the people who believed in him along the way.
Turning Passion Into Opportunity
After returning home to Newark, Rakim faced new challenges, especially during the pandemic when the food industry slowed down. Instead of giving up, he leaned into what he knew best. His weekly changing meat and seafood creations quickly gained attention, helping him build a loyal following and the confidence to open his own restaurant.
